April 2010

On Tuesday April 20, 2010 in response to a complaint of an improperly parked vehicle in the 600 block of South 7th Street, Osage Iowa, Tremayne Richard Hillhouse, 26, of 1410 Clark Street- Charles City Iowa was arrested for an outstanding arrest warrant from Dubuque County.   

During the investigation Mr. Hillhouse was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana.  Mr. Hillhouse is being held in the Mitchell County jail on both charges.  The investigation was conducted by the Osage Police Department and the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office. 


On April 6, 2010 an arrest warrant was served on Jordon Louis Ackerman, age 19 of Osage for: Burglary in the 3rd Degree (a Class D felony), Conspiracy (a Class D felony) and Theft in the 4th Degree (a Serious Misdemeanor).

On April 18, 2010 an arrest warrant was served on Jeffery Alan Morrison, age 22 of Osage also for the above charges.

 These charges stem from an investigation of a residential burglary, by the Osage Police Department and the Mitchell County Attorney’s office. Additional charges and arrests are possible as the investigation continues.

Both subjects are being held in the Mitchell County Jail.  


February 24, 2010 - Arrest

In the early morning hours on February 13th the Osage Police Department responded to a noise complaint at 621 Maple Street. 

Upon arrival the officers found several individuals in the house or hiding throughout the house.  A couple of individuals also ran from law enforcement.

Three juveniles were cited for Possession by Consumption (Osage City Code).  Their cases were turned over to the juvenile court system.

Five individuals ages 18-20 were also cited for Possession by Consumption.  One of the five cited also received three charges of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.

One individual was also charged with Interference with Official Acts.


January 6, 2010 - Arrest:

A joint criminal investigation with the Osage Police Department, Mitchell County Sheriff's Office, Mitchell County Attorney's office and the Lake County Florida Sheriff's Office has led to a search warrant and arrest warrant for Kevin William Perrin, age 45 of 633 Cedar Street, Osage, IA.

Mr. Perrin has been charged with 15 counts of Dissemination and Exhibition of Obscene Material to Minors in Mitchell County, IA.  Mr. Perrin is additional charged with 14 counts of Transmission of Material Harmful to Minors by Electronic Device in Lake County, Florida. Mr. Perrin is being held in the Mitchell County Jail without bond on the Iowa charges.  Additionally an arrest warrant from Lake County Florida has been issued for Mr. Perrin.

The criminal investigation is ongoing with possibility of additional charges being filed.


June 2009 - Bicycle Rodeo/Bike Safety:

Due to the construction of the new Public Safety Center the Osage Police Department has temporarily relocated to the current Fire Station.  This coupled with the ongoing construction of the Cedar River Complex located in the area of City Park we have decided not to hold a bicycle rodeo or the child safety seat instillation clinic this year.

As always, bicycles may be registered at any time.  We encourage everyone, children and adults alike, to register their bikes, old or new models.  By registering your bicycle you will assist the Police Department in identifying the owner when bicycles are turned if after being lost or stolen.

If you need a bicycle helmet, we still have some on hand, free of charge.

Along with summer comes the increase of bicycle activity, the Osage Police Department wishes to remind both bicyclist and motorists they must obey the same laws of the road.  Like motorists, bicyclist must use hand signals and obey all traffic signs and signals, and yield the right of way. The Osage Police Department wishes every citizen a safe and happy summer, especially bicyclists, young and old, who will be sharing the streets of Osage with various vehicles.

January 2009 - Car for Sale

The Osage Police Department will be accepting sealed bids on a 2000 Chevy Impala Police Car until January 22, 2009. The vehicle has 130,000 miles and is being sold as is. 

The vehicle can be inspected by contacting the Police Department at 432 Main Street, Osage IA 50461 or 641-732-3777.

Minimum Bid of $500.00 The City reserves the right to reject any and all bids.


September 2008 - Pool Ordinance

The Osage Police Department would like to remind the citizens of Osage that according to City Ordinance 18.4 that all private swimming pools must have at least a five (5) foot fence or wall around any pool that is one and half (1 ½) foot deep.

August 8, 2008 - Arrest from Search Warrant

The Osage Police Department and Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search warrant in the 600 Block of Chestnut Street in Osage. Officers arrested Mark Johnke, age 49 at his home at 621 Chestnut Street on drug related charges. Johnke has been charged with Possession of Marijuana, a serious misdemeanor, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. 

Johnke is being held at the Mitchell County Jail.  Additional charges are pending.


August 2008 - Bike & Traffic Safety

With the increase in bicycle activity, the Osage Police Department would like to remind both motorist and bicyclist that they both must obey the same laws and rules.

When meeting a bicyclist at an intersection, the motorist must yield the right of way to the bicyclist of they are on their right.  Likewise, the bicyclist must yield the right of way to the vehicle on their right. 

Like motorist, bicyclist must use signals and stop at all stop signs. Thank you for making the streets of Osage safe for everyone to use.


6/29/08 - Arrest from Search Warrant

The Osage Police Department and Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office arrested an Osage resident on drug charges.  Officers arrested Allen Thompson, age 46 at his home at 720 Walnut Street in Osage.      

Thompson has been charged with Possession of Marijuana, a Serious Misdemeanor, and Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp, a Class ‘D’ Felony.  Thompson is being held at the Mitchell County Jail. 


June 2008 -  Pest Control

The City of Osage, Osage Police Department and Animal Control for the City of Osage would like to inform the citizens of Osage that Animal Control and the Police Department will no longer handle calls dealing with wild animals such as, but not limited to raccoons, bats and skunks.  For any pest calls such as these you will need to call a pest control company.  Animal Control will continue to assist the citizens with dogs, cats and domesticated animals.  Any animal that may pose a public safety threat (i.e., rabid) will still be handled accordingly by Animal Control and/or the Police Department.

April 2008 - Pedestrian Safety

All pedestrians are reminded that both the Iowa State Code (321.326) and the City of Osage Ordinance (67.04) require that pedestrians shall at all times when walking along a highway (meaning all roadways), walk on the left side of such highway. 

However, whenever possible pedestrians should use sidewalks.  Please remember to wear reflective or light colored clothing now that it is getting dark earlier.
